Les jumelages interculturels et la pédagogie transformatoire

Abstract

Intercultural twinnings have long been practiced in many institutions in Quebec. The aim here is to understand the impact of these twinnings in light of current research on intercultural education and language teaching. At the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), intercultural twinning projects have a two-fold objective: for immigrants, it is the acquisition of French to facilitate their integration, and for Francophones, it is the development of their intercultural communication skills and their critical thinking. In another twinning project, Vanier College's teachers and those of Cégep de Victoriaville offer their students the opportunity to build bridges between the linguistic and socio-cultural spheres of Francophones and Anglophones. These twinnings can be seen as practices that contribute to transformative pedagogy because these encounters, in addition to changing the beliefs and values of individuals, have an impact on the prejudices circulating in society.
