Abstract

WHAT IF... We had a sports culture that wasn't weighed down by its history of misogyny, racism and homophobia? What if we could enjoy the oldest form of entertainment unabashedly, without caveats or purposeful ignorance? What if it didn't suck to be a Vancouver sports fan? The PWHL's newest expansion team has a vision of that world. Since writing this piece, the hit show, Heated Rivalry, and the women's hockey teams of Canada and America's performance during the Olympics has introduced a whole new audience to hockey and the American men's hockey team political actions has introduced that audience to the pain of being a progressive hockey fan and has taught us that just because we have a glimpse of a better world doesn't mean we live in it.
