Abstract

In this essay, I explore the transformation of despair to joy and action. Using an Afrosurrealist lens, I present the Black radical dreams I have witnessed in myself and in the activism, poetry and art of people here, in Kelowna BC. Drawing on concepts like “freedom dreams,” “poetry as survival”, and “all organizing is science fiction,” my aim is to provide a grounded analysis into our tangible dreams of liberation. My two interviewees, interviewees’ Kelp and Baobab, are dear friends and comrades who participated in oral interviews for this paper. As such, they are co-creators of this work.
