Abstract

This paper highlights the historical shifts of penguin sexuality in common knowledge since 1911. While written through a historical lens, this piece integrates sources from scholars of political science, psychology, gender and women studies, and more. It endeavours to demonstrate an answer to the question: What if we have always known penguins are queer?

Author Biography

Elena Marchesan

Originally from Victoria, British Columbia, Elena Marchesan (she/her) is a Psychology student at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan. Her research interests include understanding the impact of therapy dogs on youth development and the relationship between development and body image. Outside of academia, Elena enjoys reading, swimming, and spending time with her closest companions. As a student volunteer with BARK, you can often catch her around campus with one or more of the BARK dogs.
