Abstract
My aim with this visual was to create a sense of support within our solitude, and make a connection between the physical form and those that stand behind us and within us. I felt compelled by the ideas of walking with history and those before us, as well as the hybridity of the identities we hold. There is so much strength in exploring the communities within our own identities, and moving forward with that strength in our resistance.
The woman who stands alone at the forefront of my piece remains ambiguous in the brush strokes and colour palette; purple was chosen to give no identification of race. Her silhouette moves into a more graphic and abstract shadow of the minds who stand with her and within her own identity. Their forms are warped and abstracted to represent physical hybridization and utilize deformation to represent such crossing. Identity and resistance feel so interconnected to me, and I wanted to visually represent this lifting of one individual made up of many. To portray the strength of support and community in resistance, joined as one under one woman.
