Abstract

This is a poem that reflects on my personal journey to reconcile with many feelings of embarrassment, guilt, and anger living in Thailand and Canada. I felt I was in between worlds and needed to choose to fit into neat social boxes. When I tried, I also realized that I was not truly accepted in ‘either’ one.

After many years of introspection, I eventually came to terms with my identity(ies) and decided to embrace my mixed-race background without fear. I hope to speak to fellow biracial/multiracial folks who read this piece, and share from one to another that we should feel empowered to be who we are.
