Abstract

Through unwavering resilience and determination, Indigenous women are reclaiming their voices, revitalizing cultural traditions, and leading movements that challenge colonial systems, ensuring a future rooted in empowerment, justice, and Indigenous values. The objective of Sacred Voices, Sacred Lives anti-violence campaign aims to provide a solution to dismantle the colonial narrative that devalue Indigenous women in contemporary society. This campaign directs the narrative to Indigenous women and the resiliency in their voices, surviving the colonial target of oppression and decolonizing Indigenous women’s value. Solving the crisis of violence against Indigenous women in Canada requires reconciliation, systemic change, and empowering women within Indigenous communities. Sacred Lives, Sacred Voices demands a commitment for change, beginning at the structural level, by prioritizing a National Action Plan that emphasizes Indigenous women’s voices as a legal obligation – highlighting it as a disciplinary measure to ensure that Indigenous women’s voices are not only being heard, but actively listened to. Through advocacy, leadership, and storytelling, Indigenous women defy erasure, reaffirm their roles as knowledge keepers and protectors, and demand recognition of their inherent rights and humanity.
