Abstract

What comes to mind when you think of gender? Is it the colors pink or blue? Maybe the clothes you wear. This poem is a deconstruction of my inner thoughts of my gender identity, but it is also a critique of the broader societal implications that gender has. This poem seeks to ask why gender is so important when it is merely a social construct. Gender only has meaning if we give it meaning and so, this poem is a push back against the patriarchal society in which we live.
