Abstract

I am really inspired by the concept of transformation. The piece draws from my own journey of struggling with my own inner demons: mental illness, gender dysphoria, and transforming the pain of those experiences into growth. Though the piece is inspired by my experiences as a transgender person, I want to leave it open to interpretation, letting the emotional impact of the piece be the focus. The concept of a butterfly emerging from a chrysalis or a snake shedding its skin is strongly tied to ideas of transforming for me and I want those concepts to be paralleled in my piece. Out of pain comes change, growth, and renewal.
