Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or JPG file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in submitting a text to That's What [We] Said. All submissions will be reviewed after the deadlines. 

There are two sections for submission: Creative and Articles. 

Creative: The submission deadline for the creative section in Issue 2 (Spring 2020) is January 31, 2020.

Articles: The submission deadline for articles in Issue 2 (Spring 2020) is October 31, 2019.

 

Submission Requirements

  • All written works submitted should be double-spaced
  • Please put the title and your name at the top of your submission body
  • All subheadings should be bolded, numbers are optional
  • All citations and sources used must follow MLA 8th Edition 

Upon Submission

  • Please fill out all contact information on the submission form
  • If you wish to use a pseudonym that is fine
  • An abstract is optional
  • If you wish, please submit a personal photo as the cover image. Any images used must be your own or in the public domain.
  • please fill out the Keywords section with at least 5 words that can be used for the Metadata search
  • Please attach a separate document with a short personal biography

Editorial

This section is for editor use.

Articles

Works submitted under this section take the form of articles. Works submitted may be formal or informal.

The article submission deadline for Issue 2 (Spring 2020) is December 15, 2019.

  • Patriarchy, Cisheteronormativity and Gender Roles
  • Rape/Rape culture

  • If you are submitting visual art please take a photo, video, or scan your work
  • If you are submitting music, please have a recording that is accessible, and provide the link and a small description in the abstract section
  • Past projects and works are welcome so long as you own the rights to the piece
  • Please fill out all contact information on the submission form
  • If you wish to use a pseudonym that is fine
  • An abstract is optional, it is where you can include a description
  • Any images used must be your own or in the public domain
  • Please fill out the Keywords section with at least 5 words that can be used for the Metadata search
  • Please attach a separate document with a short personal biography
